Movie Discussion – The Switch (2010)

the switch

Director(s): Josh Gordon, Will Speck

Cast: Jennifer Aniston, Jason Bateman, Patrick Wilson

Genre(s): Comedy, Drama, Romance

Tired of waiting for a man, Kassie (Jennifer Aniston) decides to search for a sperm donor and have a child. Trouble arises when, in an act of drunkenness, her best friend Wally (Jason Bateman) replaces the donors sperm with his own.

The Switch is an extremely average romance comedy with moments of charm sprinkled throughout. Jason Bateman plays Wally Mars, a neurotic pessimist who is best friends with Kassie Larson (Jennifer Aniston). I won’t even bother divulging any of the plot because it is extremely predictable. My standards for romantic comedies aren’t high, but The Switch is missing a major component to the formula: comedy. Even a little bit of humor would have helped make this movie more enjoyable. The quality of this movie would be the same without the star power of Jason Bateman, Jennifer Aniston and Patrick Wilson. This movie isn’t bad, just disappointing.

  1. I watched it for the first time about 2 weeks ago. I like Bateman and love Anniston, so I thought ther couldn’t go anything wrong. But I have to agree with you. The lack of comedy in this romantic comedy just makes it a movie, that you just forget anything about 2 minutes after you watched it. I can’t remember any scene from this thing. That’s really not a good thing for a movie.

I’m not a big romantic comedy fan but I watched some and if someone mentions them, there is always at least one scene that jumps to mind. When I saw this blog post, there was nothing. Not one picture from the movie is still in my head. It’s just all over forgettable.
